Los Angeles: Disney has reached a monumental milestone as Zootopia 2 officially shatters the $1 billion mark at the global box office, establishing itself as the highest-grossing animated film in the studio’s illustrious history.
The sequel, continuing the story of the vibrant and socially conscious animal metropolis first introduced in 2016, has enthralled audiences worldwide, amassing an estimated $1.46 billion, surpassing Frozen II’s former record of $1.45 billion.
The original Zootopia was lauded for its innovative storytelling, visually stunning animation, and thought-provoking social themes.

The sequel elevates this legacy, delivering an engaging, imaginative adventure that resonates with audiences of all ages while achieving unprecedented commercial triumph.
The film’s staggering box office performance has been driven overwhelmingly by global audiences. While it has generated around $333 million domestically, overseas markets have contributed roughly $1.13 billion, comprising the majority of its earnings.
China has emerged as the powerhouse market, where ticket sales have exceeded $500 million. Within just five days of release, Zootopia 2 became the highest-grossing non-Chinese animated film in the country, marking one of Hollywood’s most formidable box office achievements in recent memory.
In addition to breaking revenue records, Zootopia 2 reached the $1 billion milestone in only 17 days, making it the fastest PG-rated film in history to achieve this feat.

Analysts emphasize that without its overwhelming international success, the film would not have eclipsed Frozen II, underscoring the critical role of overseas markets in today’s global cinematic landscape.
Despite its historic performance for Disney animation, Zootopia 2 currently ranks fourth on the all-time global animated box office chart, behind China’s Ne Zha 2 ($2.2 billion), Inside Out 2, and The Lion King. Industry experts suggest it is unlikely to climb further given its current theatrical run.
The triumph of Zootopia 2 and Inside Out 2 reinforces Disney’s strategic focus on high-stakes sequels. Upcoming projects such as Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3 are already in development, demonstrating Disney’s ability to blend beloved storytelling, innovative animation, and worldwide appeal into record-shattering cinematic successes.
