Flu cases increase sharply across the US

Health experts are urging the public to get vaccinated immediately, practice preventive measures.

The United States is witnessing an unusually intense flu season, with most states experiencing severe or very high levels of influenza activity. Health officials warn that the outbreak is escalating rapidly, and the flu season is only just beginning.

According to Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Policy at the University of Minnesota, “The flu season has just started, so it’s difficult to predict how severe it will become. What we are seeing now is a very rapid rise in cases.”

Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that at least 7.5 million Americans have fallen ill this season. Of these, 81,000 required hospitalization, and over 3,100 deaths have been reported. Tragically, at least eight children have also died from flu-related complications.

States with the highest flu activity include Colorado, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, and South Carolina. Key indicators such as laboratory testing, outpatient visits, hospitalizations, and deaths have all risen compared to last week. Hospital admissions have doubled in a single week, with more than 19,000 people hospitalized due to flu complications, compared to roughly 9,900 the previous week.

Health experts are urging the public to get vaccinated immediately, practice preventive measures, and ensure rapid treatment for those infected to reduce further illness and fatalities.

With the flu season off to a dangerously fast start, authorities warn that the coming weeks could see an even more severe outbreak, emphasizing the urgent need for vigilance and public health action across the country.
