American Water Works (AWK.N), opens new tab on Thursday said it ​will invest $46 billion to $48 billion ‌over the next 10 years to upgrade its water and wastewater systems to cut leaks ‌and improve efficiency and resilience.

In October, ​American Water agreed to buy Essential Utilities (WTRG.N), opens new tab for about $63 billion, including ‍debt, cementing its lead as the largest regulated water utility ⁠in the U.S.

Camden, New Jersey-based ‍American Water said it uses advanced technologies ‌such ‌as acoustic sensors, drones, infrared imaging, and smart meters to detect leaks ⁠early and ⁠enhance ​system resilience and conservation.

American Water provides regulated drinking water and ‍wastewater services to residential, commercial and industrial customers across 14 U.S. ​states and several ‍military installations.
