ISLAMABAD: Opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has issued the official notification confirming Achakzai’s appointment, following which he has formally assumed the role of opposition leader in the lower house.

According to the notification, issued under the National Assembly Rules of Business, the appointment will take effect from January 16, 2026.
The position of Leader of the Opposition had remained vacant after the disqualification of Omar Ayub Khan in connection with the May 9 case.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who heads the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and is a senior leader of the opposition alliance, was nominated for the post by Pakistan Tehreak e Insaf(PTI) founder.
