If you are a tea lover but tired of the same old flavors, winter is the perfect time to explore something new and Iranian tea could be your ideal choice.
Also known as Hyderabadi Dum Chai, this special tea is celebrated worldwide for its rich texture, aromatic fragrance, and unique preparation method. Unlike regular milk tea, Iranian tea is made by preparing the tea and milk separately, giving it a distinct and indulgent flavor. Traditionally, khoya or mawa was used instead of milk, but today heavy cream and condensed milk are often used to achieve the same luxurious taste.
Ingredients for Iranian Tea:
Tea leaves
Green cardamom
Cinnamon
Sugar
Milk
Condensed milk
Heavy cream
Water
Ground star anise (optional)
Easy Preparation Method:
In a pot, combine water, tea leaves, cardamom, cinnamon, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil.
Cover the pot with aluminum foil and a lid, and let it simmer on low heat for a few minutes to infuse the flavors. Strain the tea afterward.
In a separate pan, boil milk, then add heavy cream and condensed milk. Simmer on low heat until the milk mixture thickens.
To serve, pour the prepared tea into a cup and layer the thick milk mixture on top. Optionally, sprinkle ground star anise for garnish.
Iranian tea offers a rich, aromatic experience. For those who enjoy spiced tea, additional spices can be added according to taste, but the basic ingredients should remain unchanged.
Not only does this tea taste extraordinary, but it also makes a perfect, elegant offering for guests during the chilly winter months.
