King Charles has sent his “warmest congratulations” to the United States as the country marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
In a message addressed to Donald Trump, the King said 2026 is a “truly historic milestone and a moment of great celebration for Americans everywhere.”
He praised the U.K.’s relationship with the U.S. as one of “extraordinary evolution” and said the celebration is “an opportunity to pause and reflect on the remarkable journey” of the United States over the past 250 years.
“The connection between our people is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time,” he added.

The King said the U.S. and U.K. have moved beyond past conflict to build “one of the closest and most productive alliances the world has seen.”
He added that through “centuries of shared challenge and achievement,” the two nations have built a relationship based on friendship, trust, liberty, the rule of law, and the dignity of all people.
He said this “unique and far-reaching” alliance covers defense and security, trade and investment, science, research, education, culture and the arts.
The King also praised the “enduring bond between our countries,” which he said he experienced personally during his state visit to Washington, D.C., in May.
He added that he deeply values shared efforts to protect the natural world, saying such decisions will determine both countries’ future prosperity and security.
The Declaration of Independence, signed in 1776, declared the United States independent from British colonial rule, and its anniversary is celebrated on July 4.
Trump is expected to attend celebrations in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, including aircraft flyovers and fireworks.
The Fourth of July fireworks display is an annual tradition in Washington, and Trump has said this year’s show, scheduled after his remarks, will be the “largest fireworks show in history.”
Other celebrations are also taking place across the country.
In New York, the Times Square Ball will drop eight times to mark midnight in each U.S. time zone.
In Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence was signed at Independence Hall 250 years ago, there will be a concert featuring performers including Christina Aguilera.
