ISLAMABAD: Security forces foiled a major suspected terrorist attack in the Wana area of South Waziristan by destroying an explosives-laden vehicle before it could be used in a suicide bombing.

According to security officials, the operation was launched on the basis of intelligence. The vehicle, reportedly packed with explosives, was believed to be intended for a terrorist attack. Forces kept the vehicle under surveillance for three days and struck it only after it moved away from populated areas to minimize the risk to civilians.

Security officials said the operation destroyed the explosive-filled vehicle and a motorcycle. One suspected militant was killed and five others were injured during the operation.

Authorities said the operation was carried out with a focus on protecting civilian lives and property, describing it as a successful effort to prevent a potentially devastating attack.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for thwarting the suspected plot, saying their timely action saved residents of Wana and surrounding areas from possible devastation.

He commended the forces for ensuring public safety while neutralizing the explosives before the planned attack could be carried out.
