ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has approved the conferment of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, one of the nation’s highest civilian honors, on Sardar Muhammad Ilyas Khan, a prominent businessman and overseas Pakistani, in recognition of his distinguished services to the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the civil award for Khan, whose name was included among 355 individuals nominated for various honors on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day .
The Hilal-i-Imtiaz, or “Crescent of Excellence,” is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding services in their respective fields. Khan was recognized for his contributions to Pakistan’s development and national interest .
The award is part of a broader effort by the government to acknowledge the role of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s progress. Officials noted that the decision reflects an appreciation for the services of expatriates who contribute to the national economy and promote Pakistan’s positive image abroad .
The formal investiture ceremony for the civil awards is scheduled to take place on Pakistan Day, March 23, 2027 .
