Senate Election: Upper House Reelects Sadiq Sanjrani As Chairman

Government candidate Sadiq Sanjrani was re-elected chairman of the Senate, while the joint candidate of the Pakistan Democratic Party (PDM) has faced defeat.

Presiding Officer Muzaffar Hussain Shah while announcing the result, said that Sadiq Sanjrani got 48 votes while Yousuf Raza Gilani got 42 votes, 7 votes of Yousuf Raza Gilani have been rejected.

Yousuf Raza Gilani’s polling agent Farooq H Naik challenged the 7 rejected votes.

The polling for the Senate chairman ended after 98 senators voted in the elections.

The two voters that did not vote were Ishaq Dar, who is yet to take oath of officer. While JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed abstained from voting.

Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed abstained from casting his vote in the elections. The senator’s name was called twice by the presiding officer Muzaffar Shah but he did not get up from his seat. The senator had already announced that he will not take part in the elections after his party boycotted the polls.

Spy Camera Mystery

Senators hailing from Opposition parties has claimed that they have found spy cameras on top of the polling booth ahead of Chairman, Deputy Chairman Senate elections.

Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar in his tweet claimed that he has found spy cameras right over the polling booth.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Dr. Musadik Malik also claimed that two hidden cameras found on top of the polling booth.

On the other hand, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz on Friday bashed the Opposition over the matter of hidden cameras installed on polling booth.

While talking to media, Shibli Faraz said that “the heinous conspiracy by opposition has been exposed. They arrived at the scene by themselves and staged a drama. The Opposition is the masterminds of such acts, and this incident should be fully investigated.”

Shibli Faraz later tweeted that the tactics used in senate elections in NA by opposition where they converted majority into minority using all criminal tactics. That’s why PDM opposed open ballot .Era of loot & plunder taking last breath.

He tweeted:
