The film remains one of the most successful cross-border love stories of Indian cinema due to the story and performance of Sunny Deol, Ameesha Puri, Late Vivek Shauq and others.
One of the most famous scenes was the Hand Pump scene in which Sunny’s character Tarah Singh uproots a Hand Pump after being pushed to talk against India by Sakeena alias Ameesha’s father, Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri).
Director Anil Sharma stated to HT that while writing the moment, he felt like hurling the ‘entire building’ at Sakeena’s father’s character. It was an ‘outburst of emotions,’ he claimed, not simply the uprooting of the hand pump.
Gadar was released on 15th June, 2001 directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, late Amrish Puri, with many others.
