The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that it has no jurisdiction over non-international cricketing events and the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) has been sanctioned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had written to the ICC not to recognise KPL, which is to be played in Muzaffarad from August 6.

According to reports, India’s cricket governing body based its complaint on the ‘disputed status’ of the land where it is to be played.

“The tournament is not under ICC’s jurisdiction as it is not an international cricket tournament,” said an ICC spokesperson while speaking to Geo TV as per CricTracker.

On Friday, the former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs revealed that BCCI was trying to prevent him from participating in the inaugural edition of the KPL, which created a lot of stir.

Later, the PCB expressed its displeasure over reports that the BCCI had contacted and forced multiple ICC Members to withdraw their retired players from the league.

“The PCB considers that the BCCI has brought the game into disrepute by issuing warnings to multiple ICC Members to stop their retired cricketers from featuring in the Kashmir Premier League, further threatening they will not be allowed entry into India for cricket-related work,” the official statement said.

PCB added that such conduct from the BCCI is completely unacceptable, against the preamble of the spirit of cricket and sets a dangerous precedence, which can neither be tolerated nor ignored.
