Lucky Cement’s imported plant, machinery seized at port
KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi (I&I Karachi) has seized a consignment of plant and machinery imported by the Lucky Cement for revenue evasion, official documents suggest.
According to details, a shipment imported by the Lucky Cement declared to be new plant and machinery for manufacturing of Portland Cement (9,000 tonnes/day) was blocked last month by the Customs Intelligence at the port on the directive of Director I&I Karachi Khalil Yousafani last month.
The consignment was blocked at the gate-out stage, as the importer had already paid the self-assessed duty and taxes.
“The subsequent examination of the goods, scrutiny of goods declaration and relevant documents uploaded in the Customs web-based system revealed that the imported goods, i.e., pre-heater steel structures and anchor bolts were cleared against the wrong Customs tariff meant for plant, machinery, and equipment,” an official said.
The wrongful tariff classification implied short-payment of legitimate government revenue of Rs81.84 million.
