The Oscars 2022 saw the largest gaffe in the show’s history. On Sunday, while presenting the ceremony, comedian Chris Rock misheard a joke regarding Jada Pinkett Smith’s autoimmune ailment. Prompting a heated response from her husband Will Smith, who rushed up to Rock on stage and smacked him, shocking the audience.

Smith’s buddies Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry visited with him after the event to try to calm him down. The two approached Smith during the commercial break and had a brief conversation with him. Following which they all hugged and the situation appeared to cool down. According to a site, no one could tell if the scene was real or manufactured at first. But that was quickly revealed when Smith began cussing Rock at the top of his lungs. Rock seemed shaken by the altercation, and the audience fell silent for a moment.
The source went on to say, “For the entire crowd, it was quite awkward. Will’s buddies and teammates have been attempting to soothe him.” Later, Bradley Cooper was seen embracing Smith. According to accounts, Smith and Rock were in excellent spirits before the incident, with Rock looking forward to his Oscar appearance and thrilled to be presenting the trophy, but things changed when his joke didn’t go over well with Will.
However, while accepting the Best Actor award for his portrayal in King Richard, Smith afterwards apologised to the Academy and his fellow actors for his behaviour.
