During an election campaign tour to Tasmania, a car carrying the Australian prime minister’s security team crashed.

Four police officers were hospitalized with “non-life-threatening injuries” following the collision between the Audi and another vehicle, authorities said.

While Prime Minister Scott Morrison was not in the vehicle, the accident forced him to cancel the remainder of his Thursday campaign engagements.

The other motorist was unharmed.

According to Tasmania Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the second automobile “collided with the rear of the police vehicle while attempting to merge.” It resulted in the rollover of the unmarked security car.

According to the prime minister’s office, the two Tasmania Police officers and two Australian Federal Police officers were conscious when they were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.

“Family members of the officers have been contacted and are being kept informed of their condition,” a statement said.

“The PM is always extremely grateful for the protection provided by his security team and extends his best wishes for their recovery and to their families.”

On 21 May, Australians will vote. Mr. Morrison, who has served as Prime Minister since 2018, is seeking a fourth term in power for his conservative government.

According to polls, the opposition Labor Party led by Anthony Albanese appears to be the favorite to win. Mr. Morrison, on the other hand, overturned comparable polling to win the 2019 election.
