
Ukraine would not accept any alternatives to EU candidate status says Kuleba

Ukraine will not accept any alternatives to its standing as an EU candidate and does not believe that sceptic EU countries have any rational reasons.
“I’d want to reiterate that we, the people of Ukraine, will not accept any substitutes or alternatives to [EU] candidate status, no matter how appealing they may appear. We require EU candidate status, not candidate status for candidates, candidate status for future candidates, or any other substitute. We’ve been playing this game for a long time and are familiar with its mechanics. We are a humble, modest people who will be content with the standard EU candidate status and will not require anything special “Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated in an online briefing.
The minister emphasised his belief that Ukraine is well-deserving of candidate status and meets all of the requirements.

President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced during a visit to Kyiv on April 20 that the European Commission will announce the first conclusions on Ukraine’s candidate status by the end of June, after which the matter would be on the Council’s agenda.
