Poland urges its citizens to leave Belarus

Polish people living in Belarus should leave because relations between Poland and Belarus are getting worse, in part because of the war in Ukraine, Warsaw said on Monday.

The recommendations are comparable to those that Poles living in Russia, a close ally of Belarus, were given in the month of September.

“We recommend that Polish citizens staying on the territory of the Republic of Belarus leave its territory using available commercial and private means,” the government said in advice for travelers posted on its website. “We recommend that Polish citizens leave the territory of the Republic of Belarus.”

When Poland accused its eastern neighbor in 2021 of engineering a migrant crisis on its border, relations between Warsaw and Minsk began to worsen. Relations between the two capitals have been even more difficult following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to Warsaw, the Polish minority in Belarus is subject to repression at the hands of the state, which has resulted in the imprisonment of some community leaders.
