Shane Profitt approached Chris Janson
Shane Profitt was mowing grass in the medians of the roadways along his hometown of Columbia, Tennessee, barely a year ago, earning only $11 per hour and wondering what his future held. But he appears to have an answer now.
“To have a song in the Top 40 is truly mind-blowing,” Profitt, 22, tells news of his debut single “How It Oughta Be.” “Today I woke up at 4 o’clock in the morning because I am so excited to get my day started. You never know what can really happen until you chase a dream. You’ll never know unless you try.”
Profitt’s work has already given him the opportunity to resign from his position, open for his musical idol Chris Janson at the Ryman Auditorium, and take the stage at the Grand Ole Opry.
“I have cried every single time,” he admits quietly.
That kind of emotion is undoubtedly what a man like Profitt seems to have no issue displaying both on stage and off. He’s the kind of guy who uses the title “ma’am” for all women, who puts his phone aside when he sits down to dinner, and who still values prayer.
He simply grew up that way.
“I’m here to tell you that growing up, there was nothing that I could say I wanted to do that my family wouldn’t back me up 110%,” explains Profitt, whose granddad was the one who taught him to play his first three chords on his guitar back when he was a senior in high school. “I could tell them I wanted to be an astronaut tomorrow and they would be there to watch the spaceship take off.”
Therefore, when Profitt told them about his desire to become a country music performer, everyone who loved him immediately went on board to support him. After honing his playing techniques and beginning to perform covers around the city, Profitt eventually caught Janson’s notice after approaching him at a sushi bar.
A sushi bar, indeed.
Profitt, who earlier this year signed to BMLG Records in collaboration with Janson’s Harpeth 60 Records, believes that being able to “really live my dream” is incredible. “I never consider it a given. And the fact that I now have the opportunity to do so is a living example of how quickly circumstances can change for anyone.”
