KARACHI: A citizen has reportedly been robbed of around $50,000 (Rs11 million) in Karachi, which is being considered to be the biggest robbery incident this year, Bol News reported.
The incident took place in district South, Karachi, when the citizen left the bank with more than 49,000 US dollars in Clifton Block 5. Two unidentified persons riding a bike snatched the local and foreign currency at gunpoint from the citizen.
Boat Basin police began investigation after lodging the FIR. The plaintiff Zulfiqar Ali said he came to Karachi from abroad on November 18. He was told that his bank account was blocked, when he went to the bank on November 21, he said in the FIR.
“When I asked to withdraw the money from the bank account, I was told that it will need to go through a process. After completing the process the bank management would let me know,” he said.

Zulfiqar Ali said the bank management asked him to take the money on November 24. When he refused to take such a big amount of money from the cash counter, he was told that he must get the money from cash counter, he said.
After receiving the money from the case counter, he was asked to check the money in the VIP room, he said. After checking the money, he left for home in his car alone from the bank, he said.
The complainant said when he was parking the car after reaching home, the assailants riding motorcycle reached there. “They took Rs50,000, a mobile phone, wallet other than the foreign currency withdrawn from the bank,” he said.
Superintendent Police Clifton Faisal Chaudhry said an investigation had been launched into the incident.
