KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) dismissed an employee who threatened a Christian female security officer with blasphemy charges over a dispute at the airport.

Director General CAA took action and ordered a high-level investigation of the incident in which a man threatened to file a blasphemy case against the woman security officer.

Sources revealed that DG CAA is investigating the matter himself and has questioned the Karachi Airport Manager along with the top officials regarding the incident. He has indicated that strict action will be taken against the CAA employee and others after investigation.

The incident occurred in the cargo area of Jinnah International Airport. The clearing agent identified as Saleem had an altercation with the vigilance in-charge Samina Mushtaq after she reprimanded him for allowing a vehicle through security without proper documents.

The man was infuriated and threatened the Christian female officer with blasphemy accusations. “I will call the moulvis… I am angry and will tear you apart,” he can be heard saying.

The female officer called the man out for threatening her with blasphemy allegations and dared him to register a blasphemy case against her.

Former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari took notice of the incident and urged the federal and provincial authorities to provide security to the female officer.

“It was shameful that the woman security in-charge was threatened with a blasphemy case when she performed her duty,” he said, demanding an inquiry into the incident.

While ordering an inquiry into to incident, he said blasphemy accusations are very dangerous and certain elements wanted to defame Pakistan under the pretext of religion. He said the accuser should be severely punished for raising false allegations against the female security officer.
