ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called the political leaders for consultation on the code of conduct for the upcoming general elections.

According to the details, a consultation meeting with political parties will be held today under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner, in which the Election Commission will seek feedback on the draft code of conduct for elections.

The Election Commission has called the heads of 21 major political parties today. The Election Commission will seek suggestions from the political parties after consultation on the code of conduct.

The ECP has sent invitations to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, PML-N, PPP, MMA, MQM-Pakistan, Q-League, BAP, ANP, PKMAP, and GDA.

Apart from this, TLP, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Party, BNP, Jamoori Watan Party, JUI, Rah e Haq, PML-F, Hazara Democrat Party, and Awami Muslim League have also been invited.

It should be noted that the Election Commission had already sent the draft of the code of conduct to the political parties.

On the other hand, the federal government has released Rs 18 billion to the Election Commission for the upcoming general elections.

In this regard, the sources said that the money released by the federal government for the general elections has been received by the Election Commission.

Sources said that the government has provided money to the Election Commission for pre-election expenses, while the Election Commission has decided to use this money for the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the sources, due to separate elections in two assemblies, the expenditure on the general elections has increased by more than Rs10 billion, however, the Election Commission has decided to send a new estimate regarding the election expenditure.
