Trophy of PSL 2023 unveiled by PCB
The trophy for the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was unveiled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday in Lahore.
In front of franchise owners and top players, the PCB Management Committee Chairman, Najam Sethi, unveiled the trophy at the storied Shalimar Gardens.
“The brand new Pakistan Super League eight trophy reflected the national team’s motto, artistry, recognition, and prestige,” the PCB said in a press release.
“The 24-karat Supernova Trophy, as it will be called, has been created in Pakistan and highlights the country’s exceptional craftsmanship and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s dedication towards helping local businesses.
“The three pillars of the trophy, which are studded with 9,907 glittering zircon stones, depict the national cricket team’s motto: Unity, Passion, and Strength, while the main pillar at the back is further decorated with crystals, representing the team’s dedication and hard work.”
The PSL 8 opening ceremony will take place in Multan on February 13 before the tournament’s first match between the defending champions Lahore Qalandars and the 2021 champion Multan Sultans; the closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
The PSL 8 will be split into two legs, with matches taking place at Multan Cricket Stadium and Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena from February 13 to February 26. From February 26 to March 19, the action will move to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium. On March 15–19, the Qualifier, two Eliminators, and the Final will all take place in Lahore.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win consecutive championships, while Islamabad United will try to make history by winning the trophy three times.
No other team, outside Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans, has advanced to the championship game as the defending champions.
Eleven games will be played in Rawalpindi, nine games each in Karachi and Lahore, and five games in Multan.
