The Islamabad High Court Bar Association issued a statement condemning the torture of journalists on the occasion of the appearance of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on the premises of the Islamabad High Court.
According to the details, the violence broke out during Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appearance at Islamabad High Court. The statement claimed that the association strongly opposes the effort to halt the lawyers and journalists.
In accordance with the statement, the Islamabad High Court strongly condemns police violence against the media.
A demand is made to the government to take strong legal and departmental action against those involved, the statement explained.
The declaration further said that it should be ensured that such incidents do not take place in the future.
The journalists who were manhandled by the police include Shah Khalid Khan, Saqib Bashir, and Zeeshan Syed. It may be noted that the Islamabad police under Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah subjected the journalists to violence and attempted to make an arrest by dragging them into the police car.
In this regard, a team of journalists met with the Chief Judge of the Islamabad High Court to discuss the issue of violence against journalists and to inform him of the occurrence, of which the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court took notice.
The Chief Justice Islamabad High Court summoned Inspector General Islamabad Monday and sought an explanation on the subject of the torture of journalists. He directed the Chief Commissioner Islamabad to ask Assistant Commissioner Abdullah to give an explanation on why he came to the court.
