Peshawar Zalmi defeated Lahore Qalandars by 35 runs on Tuesday at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi in the 23rd match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

After winning the toss, Zalmi chose to bat first against Qalandars.

Babar Azam and Saim Ayub, Zalmi’s opening pair, took the attack to the opposition, scoring 107 runs in 66 balls.

Saim looked in great form against the Qalandars’ world-class bowling attack, hitting some stunning shots to all parts of the ground.

With seven fours and two sixes, the left-hander reached fifty in 26 balls.

Rashid Khan, however, dismissed Saim after he had scored 68 runs in 36 balls.

Soon after, Mohammad Haris (9) fell to Rashid’s second wicket after top-edging a sweep shot, with Sikandar Raza taking a simple catch at third man.

Rashid conceded 41 runs in his four overs despite taking two wickets.

Haris Rauf took his first wicket of the match after Babar was dismissed after scoring 50 runs in 41 balls. Right-handed hit four fours and two sixes.

With 36 runs in 16 balls, Tom Kohler-Cadmore provided impetus at the end of the innings.

Lahore’s bowler of choice was Shaheen Afridi, who finished with figures of 4-31 in four overs. Peshawar lost eight wickets in the final five overs while scoring 50 runs.

Qalandars currently lead the points table and have already qualified for the PSL 8 playoffs. After seven games, the defending champions have 12 points.

Meanwhile, Zalmi are fourth on the table with six points after four games. A win for the Babar Azam-led team today increases their chances of making the playoffs significantly.
