LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear a plea by PTI Chairman Imran Khan seeking fool-proof security and appearance in court via video link.
Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza will hear the case tomorrow. Imran Khan filed the application through his lawyers Barrister Salman Safdar and Intizar Hussain Pansota.
Federal Government, Punjab Government, Federal Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Inspector-General Police (IGP) Punjab, and Inspector-General Police (IGP) Islamabad are made respondent in the application.
The application maintained that cases are being made against Imran Khan on political grounds without any legal justification.
It added the purpose of the cases is place obstacles in the political struggle. The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees fundamental rights to every citizen. Under Article 10-A of the Constitution, fair trial is a fundamental right of every citizen.
The petitioner said the court should also issue orders for Imran Khan’s foolproof security. It urged the court to allow Imran Khan’s appearance through video link due to security concerns.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan filed a similar petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting to be allowed to appear through video link cases.
The petition court proceedings are stalled due to security reasons. It requested that all the cases to be conducted in the Judicial Complex.
It also urged the court to order police to provide fool-proof security during the court appearances of Imran Khan. It said orders should be given to provide security on the motorway as well.
PTI has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging that Imran Khan’s court appearances should be conducted through video link due to security concerns.
A joint letter was written to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Secretary General Asad Umar.
The letter states that Imran Khan is the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the head of the largest party in the country. After Imran Khan was removed from power as part of a conspiracy, several false cases were filed against him and the PTI leadership, the letter said.
It added that an assassination attempt was made on Imran Khan in Wazirabad during which he was seriously injured. The letter raised graved concerns and said there are reports of another assassination attempts on Imran Khan during his frequent appearances in court.
It is feared that Imran Khan may be attacked again if proper security arrangements are not provided, the letter states, adding that Imran Khan is facing serious threats and is not being provided adequate security.
It mentioned that there were inadequate security arrangements for Imran Khan during his recent appearance in the Islamabad High Court.
The purpose of registering cases against Imran Khan is to create an environment to attack him again, the letter added. It is requested that in view of the current situation, Imran Khan should be allowed to appear in various courts through video link.
