Yesterday’s PSL game was Sarfaraz’s first absence in eight years. While doing his duties behind the stumps, the wicketkeeper batsman suffered a finger injury. His finger managed to avoid breaking when Naseem Shah’s quick delivery struck it, but it disqualified him from playing.
No fracture was present in Sarfaraz’s finger, but he needed to rest because of swelling, according to his franchise. Nawaz took over as captain during his absence, and Quetta was fortunate enough to defeat Peshawar in a convincing chase.
Quetta lost Martin Guptill before starting the massive 241 run chase, but Roy carried his team to victory on his alone. After playing for his country in ODIs against Bangladesh, Roy returned to the Gladiators and hit a century off just 44 balls, the second-fastest in PSL history.
Once his team was set to chase a massive 241 runs in 20 overs, the right-handed batter smacked Peshawar bowlers all over the park to put up a perfect spectacle.
Roy almost missed becoming the first PSL century-scorer. Rilee Rossouw of the Multan Sultans held the record after scoring a century off 43 balls against the Quetta Gladiators in 2020.
He did, however, succeed in breaking the previous record for the greatest personal score in the PSL. He went 145 runs without being defeated.
