The 44-year-old actress revealed that her daughter Devi had to undergo a challenging six-hour operation for ventricular septal defect (VSD) shortly after birth. Devi was conceived through IVF, and just three days after delivery, Basu received the heartbreaking news about the two holes in her daughter’s heart.

Basu described the initial days as extremely difficult, revealing that she spent the first 40 days and nights without a moment’s sleep. It took her nearly 40 days to come to terms with the situation, accept it, and understand the gravity of her daughter’s medical condition.

Adding to the already challenging situation, Basu’s husband, Karan Singh Grover, was away from the city due to a film shoot, leaving her feeling lonely and isolated. Even though Grover attempted to return, his work commitments hindered him from being there for 15 crucial days.

To safeguard her daughter’s health, Basu made the difficult decision of not allowing anyone with cold or cough symptoms to meet Devi. This led her to keep the matter to herself, causing her family to wonder about her unusual behavior during that time. However, Basu’s protective instincts for her daughter were fierce, and she was determined to shield Devi from any potential risk.

Fortunately, after a challenging period, the family has now entered a more normal phase. Basu expressed joy in being able to take Devi on holidays and let her freely interact with animals at friends’ houses. In an exclusive interview, Hrithik revealed the intricacies of his approach to portraying the mentally impaired character, Rohit Mehra, which earned him critical acclaim and commercial success.

Celebrating two decades after the film’s release, director Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik sat down for a candid conversation. When asked about his approach to the character, Hrithik shared how he drew inspiration from his own life. “Academically speaking, of course, there was a DNA match, and I took a lot of it from my life,” he said. “I had experienced bullying during my school days and had a stutter. Life had already given me the vulnerability that the character needed. This is a great lesson in life – whatever we have, either good or bad, can be used if we keep our eyes open and wait for the right time.”

Koi Mil Gaya not only became a turning point in Hrithik’s career but also helped him discover his true calling as an actor. “This was a learning experience because when I came to the set, I found centering and honesty. The mask of a star and an actor would vanish. It’s just me being me, and I learned a lot from that. I found my calling through this film. I needed to be expressed, and the script was everything,” he revealed.

Reflecting on his first encounter with the script, Hrithik admitted to being deeply moved by its emotional depth. “It took me some 6 to 7 hours to read the script because, after every 2-3 pages, I used to sit and cry. I felt a lot for the film,” he recalled. Excited by the brilliance of the script, he immediately called his father and said, “Papa, the script is mind-blowing, it’s fantastic, I cried throughout the script.”

On the first day of the shoot, Hrithik felt a wave of nervousness. Wanting his father’s approval, he meticulously planned his appearance. “I thought Papa should see what I am doing with everything like my hair and my clothes. But he didn’t see anything until I landed on the first day of the shoot. It was a strange kind of faith that he had in me, and I thought that I should just follow my instinct, and that’s what I did,” he confessed with a smile. Sharing his unique process for getting into character, he said, “My process for every character is to start with the hair. Once I get that right, then I start doing other things. So once I got the hair right for Rohit, then I was set.”

As Koi Mil Gaya rejoices its 20th anniversary, the film continues to resonate with audiences, and Hrithik Roshan’s stellar performance as Rohit Mehra remains etched in the hearts of fans.

They didn’t have a problem with the concept of an alien; they had a problem that a film like that was being made with Hrithik,” he stated.

Hrithik recalled similar sentiments, reminiscing, “I remember everyone saying that Hrithik is an action hero; his last three films have flopped consecutively, and now you want to make him a mentally challenged guy. It will be over, his life will be over, that’ll be the last nail in the coffin of his professional life.”

Despite such apprehensions, Rakesh Roshan expressed confidence in the film’s potential for success. He wasn’t deterred by the chatter because he saw Hrithik’s outstanding performance during shooting, which assured him of the film’s bright future. “I did not get scared because when I used to watch Hrithik during shooting, I felt that the film would surely work because of the way he was portraying that role. If I would have felt doubtful then, I would have shelved the film. But the very first day, the very first shot when Hrithik came, I got the inner feeling that we are making a very successful film,” Rakesh ji asserted.

The movie’s outstanding hold in the second week, dropping just 20 percent, is a rarity among major Bollywood releases. Alongside its impressive domestic collection of approximately Rs. 120 crores, the film has crossed the coveted milestone of Rs. 200 crores worldwide. Its strong momentum indicates the potential to surpass USD 15 million in the international market, and a final worldwide total of Rs. 300 crores is within reach, depending on its performance against the upcoming competition.

North America Box Office: The film’s best hold came in North America, where it experienced a minimal drop of less than 5 percent, grossing USD 1.64 million in its second weekend and reaching a total gross of USD 4.72 million. This places “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” in the sixth position for the highest second-weekend collections for a Bollywood film in North America. The movie’s strong performance is evident as it climbed from outside the top 20 during its first weekend. With an estimated projection of over USD 7 million, the film is expected to continue its success in this region.

Middle East Box Office: After a slow start, the Middle East rebounded well, contributing USD 2.28 million to the film’s overseas earnings as of Sunday. The UAE market, in particular, has been exceptional, with a decline of just 25 percent from the first weekend. This is noteworthy considering the market’s frontloaded nature compared to others in the region.

Australia and United Kingdom Box Office: Australia and the United Kingdom also showcased strong performance with a second-weekend drop of only 25 percent. However, the film’s potential was limited by poor distribution, resulting in a significant reduction in screen count during the second week. Despite this setback, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” managed to remain close to grossing a million in both territories.

In a shocking turn of events, Bomman and Bellie, the renowned tribal couple featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” have sent a legal notice to director Kartiki Gonsalves, alleging financial exploitation and neglect. The couple is seeking a goodwill gesture of Rs 2 crore, claiming they were promised a home, a vehicle, and financial compensation based on the project’s income.

According to the legal notice acquired by PTI, Bomman, and Bellie were introduced as the true heroes of the documentary to esteemed personalities, including celebrities, sportspersons, and political leaders, which boosted their recognition for their work. However, despite their significant contributions to the film’s success, the couple alleges that they never received any financial compensation. Instead, all the monetary benefits were claimed by the filmmaker from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Prime Minister of India.

The couple has refrained from commenting on the case directly, urging reporters to seek further details from their legal representatives. They sought assistance from Chennai-based lawyer and social activist, Pravin Raj, who connected them with a law firm in Chennai to pursue their case.

Reportedly, Bomman and Bellie are deeply disappointed with Kartiki Gonsalves, who had initially promised them financial aid and support for Bellie’s granddaughter’s education during the filmmaking process. However, as per their allegations, Gonsalves is now refusing to share any portion of the documentary’s considerable profits. The couple had faithfully followed Gonsalves’ instructions, hoping for mutual prosperity as the film achieved success, but they claim that Gonsalves has been avoiding their attempts to reach out.

In response to the legal notice, Kartiki Gonsalves and Sikhya Entertainment, the production company behind “The Elephant Whisperers,” released a statement defending their actions. They stated that the primary objective of the documentary was to spotlight elephant conservation and the remarkable efforts of the Forest Department and its mahouts, Bomman and Bellie. The filmmakers asserted that the documentary had significantly raised awareness for the cause and garnered donations from Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister for the welfare of 91 mahouts and Cavadis, who care for the state’s elephants.

Moreover, the film’s makers emphasized that the documentary had received acclaim from heads of state across India, and the Academy Award it won was a moment of national pride, shining a spotlight on the mahouts’ vital work. In conclusion, they refuted all allegations made by Bomman and Bellie, expressing deep respect for all contributors to the documentary and reaffirming their commitment to bringing about positive change.
