KARACHI: Pakistan’s oil marketing companies posted a 3% year-on-year decline in petroleum product sales in August, driven largely by a sharp drop in high-speed diesel volumes, according to provisional numbers.

Total industry sales fell to 1.261 million metric tons last month, down from 1.300 million tons in August 2025. Volumes also slid 16% from July’s 1.509 million tons.

Despite the monthly decline, cumulative sales for the first two months of fiscal year 2027 rose 10% to 2.769 million tons, compared with 2.523 million tons in the same period a year earlier.

High-speed diesel sales led the August downturn, falling 19% year-on-year to 422,000 tons. High-octane blending component volumes plunged 52% to 15,000 tons. Motor gasoline sales remained broadly stable, slipping 1% to 666,000 tons, while jet fuel sales rose 9% to 55,000 tons.

Furnace oil sales surged 429% to 98,000 tons, though the increase came from a low base of 19,000 tons in August 2025.

State-owned Pakistan State Oil bucked the trend, posting a 4% increase in August volumes to 570,000 tons. Its sales for the first two months of FY2027 climbed 20% to 1.272 million tons.

Attock Petroleum recorded an 8% year-on-year rise in August sales to 121,000 tons, with cumulative July-August volumes up 17%.

Hascol Petroleum sales declined 16% to 35,000 tons in August and fell 11% during the first two months of the fiscal year. Wafi Energy Pakistan reported broadly flat August sales of 107,000 tons, while cumulative volumes rose 12% to 238,000 tons.

Cnergyico recorded the strongest percentage growth among peers, with August volumes rising 178% year-on-year to 80,000 tons and July-August sales jumping 183% to 160,000 tons.

Market share shifts accompanied the sales changes. PSO strengthened its position, with its overall share rising to 45.2% in August from 42.1% a year earlier. Its share for the first two months of FY2027 increased to 45.9%, compared with 41.8% in the same period last year.

Attock Petroleum’s August market share rose to 9.6% from 8.6%, while Wafi Energy’s share edged up to 8.5% from 8.2%.
