‘The Tourist’ leans into the fun rather than focusing on the memory loss and the idea that, well, Jamie Dornan has done some things that have caused a lot of grief and had a few people want to have him offfed.

Jamie Dornan said what makes the programme distinctive — and what keeps me watching, “I think the way it plays with tones, often so abruptly swinging from drama to comedy,”’ added, “Just when you think you have a handle on what’s going on, you’re proven wrong.”

As his character, dubbed “The Man,” tries to go ahead, he begins to put together what he’s done with the assistance of police officer Helen Chambers (portrayed by Danielle Macdonald). It’s quickly realised that he has skeletons in his closet with the ability to catch up to him.

The series occasionally resembles a cat-and-mouse game, with the mouse attempting to find out how it acquired a tail in the first place.

The pilot episode of the programme, conceived and written by Harry and Jack Williams, drew 4.6 million viewers on BBC One, making it the top-performing original scripted show on BBC iPlayer at the time. It is still the most-watched show on the streaming service.

As Jamie Dornan said, “I’ve never had to approach a character before who doesn’t know who he is, so it was almost like a total opposite process for me of not allowing yourself a backstory and accepting every single discovery he has as something new.”

Added, “I often tried to consider myself in my most vulnerable moments, where I’ve felt lost or afraid and draw on those.”

While he was unafraid on set, filming in a variety of places around the Australian Outback left him feeling uneasy.

The atmosphere, according to Jamie Dornan, was the most difficult element. He explains, ” “We shot in everything from baking hot days to icy cold mornings.”

He shares, “We also dealt with consistent sandstorms.” Adding, “I probably consumed a dozen or more flies!”
