Popular Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade, who was 23 years old, passed away from cancer.
Technoblade thanked his followers and fellow streamers for their support over the years in a video he posted to his YouTube channel called “so long nerds,” which was narrated by his father. He also disclosed that his true name was Alex. (In a previous video, he “accidentally” revealed that his name was Dave.)
“Hello everyone, Technoblade here. If you’re watching this, I am dead,” he says. “Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had another 100 lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time, as those were the happiest years of my life.”
A final video was discussed, but according to Technoblade’s father, Alex was “having a terrible time doing the writing” as a result of his sickness.
“I don’t think he said everything he wanted to say, but I think he got the main points,” says his father. “He finished that up and then he was done. He lived about another eight hours after that.”
Technoblade stated that he has been given a cancer diagnosis in a video that was uploaded to his YouTube account in August 2021. He claims that in July of that year, he first felt the pain in his right arm was the result of repetitive strain syndrome. He finally visited a doctor at the start of August and was identified as having sarcoma, a rare kind of cancer that develops in the connective tissues of the body.
“I feel a bit silly talking about this with Minecraft in the background, it feels a bit out of place,” he added.
Following Technoblade’s departure, messages of support, respect, and condolences have poured in from the gaming world. Among them are tributes from Dream SMP players, a very famous Minecraft server that collaborates with well-known broadcasters to make stories (including Technoblade himself).
