‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ surpasses $1.1 Billion at box office
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, James Cameron’s epic follow-up, is still making waves as the year comes to a close. According to sources, with another $70.5 million on Wednesday, the film has already made over $1.1 billion at international box offices. The picture is on course to become the biggest foreign release of the year with an international market share of 762.8 million dollars.
Despite a less-than-expected $134 million opening weekend, the film has maintained its supremacy at the box office. The movie is on course to outperform Thor: Love and Thunder’s $343 million with its current domestic gross of $337.9 million.
It remains to be seen if the movie can surpass Top Gun: Maverick’s $718.7 million in revenue. The movie Avatar: The Way of Water, which is now running 1% behind the one before it, had the greatest Wednesday of the year this week with $20.4 million in revenue, beating Maverick’s $14.8 million.
The movie’s box office success is still strong in overseas regions. The movie has already made $116 million worldwide as of Wednesday, with $75 million coming from France alone.
China contributed $3.7 million to the movie’s Thursday earnings despite lingering COVID-related restrictions. With $2.1 million added to the epic science fiction film’s $62.7 million total, Korea continues to enjoy widespread popularity.
The film has made a total of $52.1 million from Germany and $42.4 million from India, among other major regions.
Avatar: The Way of Water’s success was crucial to the franchise’s future because a third film in the series has already begun production, and numerous potential sequels are also in the works.
However, it looks that Cameron’s vast science fiction universe has a bright future because the movie has already surpassed the billion dollar mark and is still doing well at the box office.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang make a comeback in Avatar: The Way of Water as Jake Sully, Neytiri, and Colonel Miles Quaritch, respectively, almost ten years after the events of the first movie.
Along with other new cast members, such as Kate Winslet as Ronal, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, and Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore, Sigourney Weaver also makes a comeback in the sequel as Kiri, a new character.
