Emilia Clarke 36, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the original HBO series, confessed to Variety why she finds the new series to be “strange” for her. “I am really glad it is happening, said Clarke at the festival where she was in attendance to promote her movie The Pod Generation. I am absolutely ecstatic about all of the honours. everyone who has succeeded.”

Even if Miguel Sapochnik, the co-showrunner for season 1, is, in Clarke’s words, “amazing,” she still finds it “so odd” to be watching a show that is centered on the past of her former character.

She said, “I just can not do it.” “It is really odd. It is really odd. It is similar to being asked, “Do you want to attend this school reunion from a year other than your own? Do you intend to attend the school reunion? Kind of feels like that. I stay away from it.”

Throughout the eight-season span of GoT from 2011 to 2019, Clarke played Targaryen, and she even received four Emmy nominations for the role. Follows House Targaryen in the prequel series, which is set more than 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Not every former member of the Game of Thrones cast has found the prequel series to be an enjoyable watch, despite the success of the new programme. It “could be tough” to follow House of the Dragon, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the first HBO series, admitted to the Associated Press in 2021. The actor later said to Insider, “There is emotion tied to that for me.”

The 36-year-old actor said, “I think to see people go into dresses and costumes that mimic what we wore for all those years, and it [has] the same music, style, and tone, but not be in it is always going to seem — There is going to be a rawness there.”

House of the Dragon won the 2023 Golden Globe for best drama series earlier this month.

The show prevailed over Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark, and Severance to win its maiden Golden Globe award. After accepting the trophy, Sapochnik called series stars Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy to the stage and requested “a hand of applause for two outstanding actresses.”

He continued, “I hope it was worth it,” as he thanked HBO for “sort of trusting us with their golden goose.”

When we had the premiere in Los Angeles, he observed, “I realised that instead of being eager and then getting aroused, what everyone did was they had this sensation of relief.” And that was quite touching.
