Selena Gomez skipped the SAG Awards

The star-studded SAG Awards were recently held in California, and many actors turned heads on the red carpet, with the exception of Selena Gomez. The singer-actress, whose show Only Murders in the Building was nominated, appears to have opted out of the award ceremony. While she has not stated why she is doing so, some reports suggest it has something to do with her web series.

Selena made her television debut as a child actor in the children’s show Barney & Friends. She later appeared in Disney shows such as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place.

Not only was Selena Gomez absent from the award show, but so were her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short. The two senior actors were vying for the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. While the three of them did not attend the award show in person, their virtual presence, a short comedy sketch that played at the start of the show, had the audience in splits.

According to Elle, Selena and her co-stars’ absence from the show is not due to the recent drama with Hailey Bieber, but rather to the fact that they are currently filming the third season of the Netflix series. Furthermore, the Wolves singer was not nominated for any awards. Ashley Park and Meryl Streep previously joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building.

The show was also nominated for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Series. It did not, however, win any of the awards.

Selena recently made headlines for defending her best friend Taylor Swift after a video of Hailey Bieber mocking Tay surfaced. Selena Gomez responded to the video by writing, “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be the best in game.” Selena announced a social media hiatus shortly after the drama.
