Steven Spielberg’s ET inspiration: Belief that ‘we’re not alone in the universe
The legendary director Steven Spielberg, whose love of science fiction is evident in his work, recently discussed the potential of other intelligent species existing in the world. The director of E.T. stated during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that he does not think we are alone.
I do not believe that we are the only intelligent species in the universe, according to math, he stated. That is completely impossible, in my opinion,” he added. Unless it finds a way of “jumping the shark,” so to speak, and travelling here via wormholes, it also seems implausible that someone would visit us from 400 million light years away — except in movies, of course.
The director replied, when asked about UFOs, “I have never seen a UFO, I wish I had! Nothing I have ever seen has defied explanation. Yet, I do believe some individuals who have witnessed things that are inexplicable. “I find what has been happening lately to be incredibly intriguing.”
He asks, “What if it is us, 500,000 years from now, returning to record the latter half of the 20th century and the early 21st century because they are anthropologists. They are attempting to trace the past 100 years of our history because they are aware of something that has happened that we are not yet fully aware of.
