Robert Downey Jr. comments on his character Tony Stark comparison with Elon Musk

Robert Downey Jr.‘s character Tony Stark from the MCU movies shares many similarities with real-life techie Elon Musk. However, the actor has some pointers to offer regarding the CEO of Tesla “cosplaying” the fictional character.

During an interview on the “On with Kara Swisher” podcast, the Sherlock Holmes actor discussed Musk’s portrayal. Downey Jr. began by mentioning that he had only met Musk a few times.

However, the Due Date star then went on to add, “I just wish that he would control his behavior a little more, but that’s not on me. I know that this idea of ‘It’s all okay ’cause we’ve gotta get to Mars’ doesn’t really hold water with me.”

While speaking on the podcast, Robert Downey Jr. mentioned that people should consider everything Musk has accomplished and the goals he has achieved in life, as these factors “demonstrate why he’s valuable.”

According to Iron Man screenwriter Mark Fergus, who spoke to a private news agency, Elon Musk significantly inspired the character of Tony Stark. The two share not only their technological prowess but also their cockiness and overall hotheadedness, according to Fergus.

During the August 2022 interview, the screenwriter also noted that Tony Stark exhibits characteristics similar to those of Donald Trump and Steve Jobs.

Fergus mentioned that while developing the movie character, he envisioned Tony Stark as Musk, blending “the brilliance of Jobs with the showmanship of Trump.” He further described Musk as the only person with a “fun factor” who possesses a “celebrity vibe and actual business substance.”

For those who don’t know, Robert Downey Jr. briefly shared the screen with Elon Musk while playing Tony Stark in the 2010 movie “Iron Man 2”.

The two met each other at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Robert Downey Jr. carried the beloved Iron Man character from 2008 until the legendary entry *Avengers: Endgame* in 2019. Tony Stark, a genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist, sacrificed his life while saving the universe from Josh Brolin’s Thanos and his massive army.

However, Downey Jr.’s journey with Marvel Studios isn’t over yet, as the star was recently announced to return in future Avengers films, taking on the role of the grand villain Dr. Doom.
