Revenge will be a key theme in the highly anticipated second season of “Squid Game,” according to creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. He promises a bigger cast and more exciting challenges than in the first season.

Speaking at a promotional event in Lucca, Italy, Hwang shared that a third season is already in post-production and hinted that an English-language version may also be in development.

The first season, released in 2021, became Netflix’s most-watched series ever. Hwang won an Emmy for outstanding directing, and lead actor Lee Jung-jae received the best actor Emmy, making history as the first Asians to win these awards for a non-English series.

Squid Game 2 is set to premiere on December 26, with a third season expected in 2025. Hwang explained, “In Season 2, Gi-hun, who survived Season 1, returns to the games, not to win this time around, but to put an end to these games.” He added, “There is going to be a larger number of characters this time and more intriguing games.”

Lee, who plays Gi-hun, acknowledged the pressure to improve on the original, stating, “Gi-hun is a very different person in Season 2. This time around he wants revenge.” He aims to bring those behind the deadly games to justice. Hwang also mentioned that U.S. director David Fincher is reportedly working on an English version, saying, “I’m looking forward to seeing it.”

Recently, Netflix dropped the official teaser of Squid Game: Season 2 on YouTube, showcasing the protagonist in a new avatar. The 1:52 duration teaser features a new cast, old challenges, and a lot of action with thrills.
