Amar Kaushik, the director behind the blockbuster Stree 2, has announced plans to expand the horror-comedy franchise with third and fourth installments.

Speaking at an event in Goa, Kaushik reflected on the phenomenal success of Stree 2, which has become Bollywood’s biggest hit of 2024 and India’s second highest-grossing film of the year.

The film set a historic milestone as the first Hindi-language movie to cross the INR 600 crore mark at the box office, creating a new club for Bollywood hits.

“We have stories in mind and will shoot soon, though there’s no definite timetable. Of course, it will have to be done in Madhya Pradesh. And we may explore other parts of the state,” Kaushik confirmed.

The filmmaker revealed that the original Stree was initially planned to be shot in Goa but was later relocated to Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, to break conventional horror stereotypes. “Stree was originally going to be made here in Goa. But then we chose to relocate to the heartland and selected Chanderi in MP. I wanted to avoid some of the horror stereotypes and sought out a city rather than a beach or a haunted house,” he explained.

Kaushik added, “In Chanderi, every lane and street seemed to be calling out to me. I’ll make Stree 3 or Stree 4 there again.”

Stree 2, a sequel to the 2018 hit, features Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao reprising their roles alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee, with special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, and Tamannaah Bhatia. Released on August 15, it clashed with Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa.
