Legendary Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan announced on social media that he has contracted COVID-19. Amitabh’s son Abhishek Bachchan also tweeted that he had tested positive for Coronavirus.

Rumours began to spread about Amitabh Bachchan being admitted to Nanavati Hospital, which is close to his Juhu home.

Nanavati is now mainly a Covid hospital, Bachchan has been visiting it over the years for his routine checkups; his family doctor is a consultant in the hospital.

“I have tested Covid positive … shifted to Hospital… hospital informing authorities… family and staff undergone tests, results awaited…,” read Bachchan’s tweet.

However, the legendary actor has requested all that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days’ to get themselves tested for the viral fever.

Abhishek too announced his COVID-19 positive status via a tweet. He wrote, “Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for Covid-19.”

He said both have mild symptoms and are in hospital. “We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic,” he added.

Meanwhile, a number of celebrity stars expressed heartfelt wishes to both the father and son and wished them speedy recovery.

On the other hand, the sanitization workers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) arrived at Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

Jalsa is now a containment zone and no one is allowed to enter or exit the place. A team of 18-20 personnel, including doctors, arrived at Jalsa to collect the samples of those whose tests are still pending.

Another team was there to collect the COVID-19 waste of Amitabh and Abhishek and another team sanitized the entire property deeply.

Apart from Jalsa, Amitabh Bachchan’s other properties – Janak and Prateeksha – are also being sanitized.
