Perry tells Sawyer about his life’s pervasive drug and alcohol addiction during the height of his fame and how it almost completely destroyed everything.

“At the time I should have been the toast of the town,” Perry reveals, “I was in a dark room meeting nothing but drug dealers and completely alone.”

The Friends actor reveals to Sawyer that in addition to the “Methadone, Xanax, and a whole quart of vodka a day” that Sawyer described, he was also taking “55 Vicodin a day” in the throes of his addiction.

Perry adds, “Imagine how scary a moment that was.”

He admits that Aniston’s assistance was essential to his healing process. He says to Sawyer, “She was the one that reached out the most.” She has my sincere gratitude for that.

He explains why he was finally ready to be open about his life as Perry and Sawyer tour his house, stating, “It was vital to me to do something that would assist people.”

Oct. 1 marks the debut of the one-hour program Matthew Perry—The Diane Sawyer Interview, which also promises to divulge never-before-seen information from Friends’ production.
