Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox return to take down a Ghostface
This time, Ghostface is distinctive. The first full teaser for Scream VI, which stars Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere as Kirby from Scream 4, was unveiled on Thursday by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group.
A violent encounter between Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and Ghostface in New York City is hinted at in the teaser as they seek the passersby’s assistance in a bodega.
Then, as new characters encounter Kirby and Gale and find something resembling a “shrine” to Ghostface, Sam is seen making reference to her own link to Scream’s history because she is the daughter of the villain Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) from the original 1996 film.
The new teaser shows how Ghostface hunts Gale specifically and leads to a tense encounter between Sam, Tara, Josh Segarra’s character, and their pals Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), all of whom are wearing Halloween costumes, on the train during the holiday.
In the trailer, Panettiere’s Kirby declares, “This isn’t like any other Ghostface.”
Later, Cox’s Gale picks up the phone and informs the unknown assailant: “You are aware that you are at least the tenth person to try this. For the dip-s—- in the mask, nothing ever turns out well.” The murderer replies, “Maybe. Gale, however, there has never been someone like me.”
Neve Campbell, who has played the lead in the Scream movies since 1996 original, revealed last year that she wouldn’t be coming back for the follow-up because she hadn’t received a good offer. (Spoiler alert: Dewey, played by David Arquette, was killed in the previous movie and is not anticipated to make a comeback.)
However, Campbell stated to the news that she might possibly return to the brand in the future.
“I don’t know that I’m done for good,” she said. “It would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”
The new Scream, which is set in New York City, reunites the teenage actors from the Scream of 2022 as they “leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” The next sequel is “possibly a hundred times gorier” than prior movies in the franchise, according to Barrera, 32, who teased this to Collider in December.
The film also features Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, and Samara Weaving and is once again directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. On March 10, Scream VI opens in theatres.
