In November 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released to great critical acclaim. The Marvel universe’s portrayal of the strong African nation was supposed to pave a new route for the continent’s future. Given Marvel’s choice to not recast the character when Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020, the plot would have to be altered. While mourning King T’Challa’s loss, viewers were treated to an appearance by Killmonger, who was a rival of his in the first movie (Michael B. Jordan).

Following Shuri (Letitia Wright) ingesting the heart-shaped herb on her path to becoming the Black Panther, Killmonger made an appearance in the Ancestral Plane. Jordan revealed on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon how he was able to keep his appearance a secret, which surprised fans. He admitted how difficult it was for everyone to work without Boseman present and said it was “challenging” to keep the identity of his cameo a secret.

Jordan explained how to get ready for the occasion:

And Ryan Coogler was faced with the enormous challenge of adapting the script and the narrative in a way that both paid tribute to Chadwick and advanced the franchise. I had to let my hair grow out in order for me to be able to return, and I had to keep it a secret. I fixed the locks and such things, you know. I also have to wear a hat, and a hoodie, and fly privately, which isn’t too bad considering how much I travel. But it was incredibly difficult to keep it a secret.

Both the viewers and Shuri herself were shocked when Killmonger appeared to her in the Ancestral Plane. When she got there, she had hoped to run into a member of her family, but Kill monger’s presence spoke to the emotional scar she still carried from losing her mother and brother so suddenly. For a while, she followed the advice of her cousin, who had persuaded her to choose vengeance in her quest, and declared war on Talokan. However, the new Black Panther chose the proper course after giving herself time to emotionally and mentally recover.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has gotten favorable reviews from critics and amassed box office revenue of $840 million. The fact that Angela Bassett’s portrayal of Queen Ramonda earned her an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress is evidence of the movie’s high calibre. Jordan had to keep his position in Wakanda Forever a secret, but fans may look forward to seeing him in the upcoming Creed III.
