Titled Birthday Blizzard ’26, the four-track freestyle project arrived without warning and is available on J. Cole’s website for $1, with fans given the option to pay more. Across the mixtape featuring tracks such as Bronx Zoo Freestyle, Golden Goose Freestyle, Winter Storm Freestyle, and 99 Build Freestyle Cole revisits his 2024 apology to Kendrick Lamar following his brief diss track 7 Minute Drill.
In the freestyles, he suggests that the apology reshaped how he is perceived in hip-hop, implying it pushed him out of the genre’s perceived “top three.”
However, Cole frames the moment as a reset rather than a downfall.
He reflects that doubt often brings out his strongest work, adding that stepping away from competition allowed him to rebuild from a quieter place with renewed focus.
