'Spirited,' a new sing-along version, is coming to theatres

Spirited“, a new sing-along version of Apple TV will be released in theatres. The holiday musical comedy stars Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer and will be released in over 100 theatres across the United States. Some of Benj Pasek’s original songs are considered Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award contenders in the Best Original Song category.

Previously, the film had a limited theatrical release in the United States on November 11 before being released on Netflix on November 18.

According to the report, the new version includes stylized lyrics on screen, karaoke style, with each word represented and highlighted to allow viewers to follow along in time.

Sean Anders’ film will be shown in Cinemark and Megaplex theatres, as well as other independent and regional exhibitors. There is no word on when the run will end, and the original film is still playing in some theatres.

Spirited is a contemporary retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story A Christmas Carol. The story is told from the perspective of the ghosts, who select the wrong Scrooge as his dark soul.

Clint turns the tables on his ghostly host, forcing Present to reconsider his own past, present, and future. Fans and critics alike have praised the film for its hilarious performances, storyline, and punchy holiday musical numbers.

Ferrell returned to the holiday genre two decades after making Elf, and the film is Reynolds’ first in the genre. And they both did an excellent job!

Ferrell and Reynolds deliver incredible musical numbers in the film. “There is no point throughout this entire process that I haven’t questioned that idea. There must be something easier than 3 and a half months of tap dancing rehearsals, choreography meetings, rehearsals, and singing lessons, and all kinds of stuff. So it was pretty wild.”

Ferrell plays Ebenezer Scrooge, the current Ghost of Christmas Present, Reynolds plays Clint Briggs, Spencer plays Kimberly, Sunita Mani plays Bonnie, the Ghost of Christmas Past, Patrick Page plays Jacob Marley, Andrea Anders plays Carrie, and many others appear in the film. Anders directs from a script co-written by him and John Morris.

Spirited will be released in theatres on December 16th and will also be available on AppleTV+.
