Punjab food authority (PFA) conducts a grand operation against hazardous meat, here on Friday.

According to the details, PFA, in the supervision of Director General Punjab Food Authority Irfan Memon, the vigilance and meat safety team carried out a grand operation against illegal slaughterhouses and sealed two premises in the area of Bakar Mandi.

PFA has sealed two illegal slaughterhouses named Noor Da Dera and Malik Bilal in Bakar Mandi while 1,355kg hazardous meat and two emaciated animals have been recovered.

During the raid, PFA watchdog team has confiscated 950kg beef, 405kg meat and two sick animals.

PFA DG Irfan Memon revealed that substandard and hazardous meat was being prepared by slaughtering emaciated animals.

Fake stamps also have been recovered which were being used to show the meat is verified by the concerned department.

He further said, “Meat was being prepared after illegally de-sealing both shops without completing the legal formalities from the butchers which used to sell in different areas of the city.”

Furthermore, he said confiscated hazardous meat has been sent to Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) for discarding as per ecofriendly policy.

People must identify these kinds of illegal meat handlers to root them out from this society, he added.
