KARACHI: The provincial Health Minister Azra Pechuho said Friday that the new variant of covid is not as threatening as the previous one.
She was addressing a press conference when said that the new wave of coronavirus is not as deadly as the previous ones were however, the nation needs to be cautious in this regard.
Announcing precautionary measures against the surge, she said that the health ministry has to re-open isolation centers and must urge the people to wear masks.
Azra Pechuho said that the province reported 582 deaths, and more than 34 million vaccines have been given. “The ministry has done more in Hyderabad and Karachi, children have also been vaccinated, nearly 76% of children between 5 and 11 years have been vaccinated.”
She was underscoring the issue at an hour when neighbouring states like India and China have been battling with the new and wild variant of covid.
Given the situation, Pakistan has announced to resume screening at the airports for international passengers landing here.
Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Abdul Qadir Patel on Thursday said that the government has strengthened the role of Border and Health Services in Pakistan to deal with any sub-variant of Covid-19.
He said that the situation was completely under control and asked the general public to avoid listening to rumors. He added that the Corona case passivity ratio was just 0.3 to 0.5 in the country while 90 percent of the country’s population already got the COVID-19 vaccine.
