ISLAMABAD: In the last 24 hours, 17 new covid-19 cases have been reported across the country while no patient died of the disease.

As per the National Institute of Health (NIH), 3,605 tests were conducted in the country out of which 17 turned positive.

Meanwhile, the positivity ratio stands at 0.47%. 12 patients are said to be in critical condition.

A few days back, the first case of Covid-19’s variant BF.7 has been confirmed in Karachi, Dow University of Health Sciences confirmed.

Despite the immune-evasive properties of BF.7 and the alarming indications of its expansion in China, the variant appears to be rather stable elsewhere. For instance, it was predicted to account for 5.7% of illnesses in the US up until December 10, 2022, a decrease from 6.6% the week before.

A lack of immunity in China from the prior infection and potential vaccination may be a contributing factor in the Chinese predicament and BF.7’s high reproduction rate.
