Beyond weight loss: GLP-1 drugs may improve your health

GLP-1 drugs may reduce the risk of kidney failure in some patients.

A new study has revealed that GLP-1 class weight-loss drugs may provide significant health benefits beyond helping people lose weight, including boosting energy levels and improving overall wellbeing.

According to recent findings, many users reported feeling more active and energetic while taking these medications. In the United States, about one in eight adults say they are currently using the popular weight-loss injections that became widely used in the early 2020s.

Researchers also found that these drugs may help reduce harmful inflammation in the body a major factor linked to serious illnesses such as cancer, dementia and heart disease. The results suggest that the medications could have broader health impacts than previously believed.

The American Kidney Fund has also stated that GLP-1 drugs may slow the progression of kidney disease and reduce the risk of kidney failure in some patients.

Meanwhile, a study conducted by King’s College London found that semaglutide the main ingredient used in Ozempic and Wegovy was effective in treating liver disease in nearly two-thirds of patients.

Scientists say the growing evidence shows that GLP-1 medicines could play a much larger role in improving long-term health, not just weight management.
