She also thanked her creative team, noting, “My character is only an amalgamation of the beautiful ideas of the amazing people around me.”

Angelina Jolie received the Performer Tribute for portraying Maria Callas in Netflix’s Maria.

Wearing a sleek black gown, she reflected on the significance of the ceremony coinciding with Callas’ 101st birthday and shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand: “I grew up with a mother who kept books inside the oven because there were more books in our house than shelves.”

Angelina Jolie also thanked director Pablo Larraín for his vision, highlighting the influence of both their mothers on their artistry.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the global hit “Squid Game,” received the Creator Tribute at the 2025 Gotham Television Awards.

The Gotham Film & Media Institute praised him for “combining high-stakes storytelling with sharp cultural commentary to create the global phenomenon.”

The award recognizes creators who have pushed creative boundaries and made a lasting impact on television. Hwang’s “Squid Game” previously won Breakthrough Series – Long Form in 2021.

The 35th Gotham Awards successfully combined glamour, cinematic excellence, and red carpet style, celebrating Hollywood’s finest talents while setting the tone for this year’s awards season.
