Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai has been arrested today (Aug 10) under a new a new national security law.
According to the details, authorities arrested Lai Chee-Ying, known professionally as Jimmy Lai under a new national security law, detained over suspected collusion with foreign armies as about 200 police searched the offices of his Apple Daily newspaper.
It is to be noted that Lai was smuggled into Hong Kong on a fishing boat when he was a penniless 12-year-old, has been one of the most famous democracy activists in the Chinese-ruled city.
The sources said that his arrest comes amid Beijing’s crackdown against pro-democracy opposition in the city. China imposed the new security law on Hong Kong on 30th June, drawing condemnation from Western countries.
