A great number of people have been stabbed in Birmingham city center. Police have called it a “major incident”.

According to the international news agency, West Midlands Police were called to reports of a stabbing at around 00:30 BST on Sunday. Stabbing incidents were reported in the area shortly after the report.

A “major incident” highlights that there is the security of people is at risk in the area. All the emergency services work together with special arrangements.

The force said: “We are aware of a number of injured people, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious.”

The force assured that emergency services are working in the area, and are ensuring medical care of the wounded ones.

The West Midlands Police stated, “Work is still going on to establish what has happened, and could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything.

“At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.

“The emergency services have well-rehearsed plans for dealing with major incidents. Our response is ongoing in Birmingham city center and will be for some time. Cordons are in place, and there are some road closures.”

People have been asked to be vigilant but calm. They have been asked not to enter the area.
