An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 has shaken Eastern Turkey on Sunday morning.

According to the latest updates by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), an earthquake has occurred in eastern Turkey at a depth of 2 km (1.2 miles), with the epicenter located 10 kilometers from the city of Sivrice.

EMSC initially reported the magnitude as 6.4, but later cleared the information.

Earlier in October, a strong earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale has been felt in Turkey.

The epicentre was reported below the Aegean coast in Turkey, however; no tsunami alert was issued.

According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 17 on the Richter scale struck 17 kilometres off the coast of the western Turkish province of Izmir.

No casualties were reported in the latest reports from Turkey, but images from Izmir show buildings collapsing in the aftermath of the quake.
